A 32-year-old immigrant detained by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New Jersey, has tested positive for COVID-19.

He is the first confirmed case among detainees under ICE custody.

A guard at the Bergen County Jail where he is being held, also tested positive for COVID-19 last week.

According to a ICE press release, the detainee is "quarantined and receiving care."

Bergen County Jail is now under lockdown and won't be accepting new detainees.

Three child immigrants have also tested positive for COVID-19 at a New York facility.

Advocates have been calling for the release of detained immigrants, saying COVID-19 would spread rapidly inside ICE detention centers, which are often overcrowded and unsanitary.

They've also been asking for the government to create quarantine facilities for immigrants detained.

There are more than 38,000 people in ICE custody.

According to ICE, there are 22 cases of employees with COVID-19. Three of them work at detention centers.

Over fear of the virus, some immigrants in federal custody are staging hunger strikes and defying guards.

In New York, a federal judge ruled in favor of 10 detainees who petitioned for release "because of the public health crisis posed by COVID-19."

But will the rest of the country listen to advocates and release detainees?
